Little women's clothing. A bunch of women whining about their circumstances rather than the strong women I grew up loving. Acting sounded like a dramatic reading rather than believable. The formidable Aunt March was reduced to a high paid walk on. First half confusing unless you are a fan of the book because it flashes back and forth so you only get glimpses rather than true character development. Watch 1994 movie or masterpiece theatre miniseries instead.

I took my 9 and 10 year old granddaughters and they had to constantly ask "is this the present or past." What's wrong with just following the book and filming in the right time sequence of events? And it especially didn't work because the actors were the same whether they were 14 or 20 so that didn't give you a hint. Just a disappointing version.

Christian Bale brings the much needed heft absent in previous versions to the important Laurie character. Timothy Chailamet is simply not up to the task - very poor casting. Saoirse Ronan always brings her "A" game to her performances. However, Winona Ryder's independent, spirited Jo is more faithful to the book. Completely off the mark is the portrayal of Beth. Claire Danes captures the fragility of the character without sinking to the maudlin. The great Susan Sarandon exudes the warmth and intelligence of beloved Marmie, not unlike the late great Mary Astor. Dern is terribly miscast in the role. (For a perfect casting of the very talented Laura Dern, one only need to see Noah Baumbach's excellent Marriage Story wherein she portrays a barracuda divorce attorney. br> Costumes, sets and music all lovely and superb in the '94 film, mediocre and drab in the 2019 remake. Most disappointing, however, is the screenplay. Gerwig's incessant flashbacks are an annoying distraction from the narrative and only serve to drain the piece from its original charm and freshness. The single "star" rating is for Ms. Ronan who made a valiant effort to rise above the material.
The title of my piece is "Why." Why remake a film if you cannot improve upon it in any meaningful way.

Sandra bullocks performance is genuine and strong. She's very strong in the role. The politics and race is obviously what got her the oscar, like every American-we-can-fix-racism movie. But her performance is unfaultable. Is nobody going to talk about how AMAZING Florence Pugh is just from that first scene? omg wowowowow. It looks goo and im going to see it for sure- but I really don't get why they made it after the PERFECT 1994 version. Vintage little women book. Is the piano Piece he is playing Chopin. I want them to end up together T.T. What does she mean at 1:33 when she says she tried it and she failed? does she mean she tried to love him? or envision them together.

This version of the movie is so far inferior to the 1994 version of Little Women it is not even funny! I mean Emma Watson for Meg? Everyone save your money and watch the 1994 version. The soudtrack for that movie is amazing; the casting for the characters was great; Christian bale as laurie, Winona Rynder as Jo, Meg actually acted like meg and was kind and motherly and actually had a personality! Beth's death actually made me cry something this movie just glossed over. The 94 version also came very close to winning best film score but that was the year the lion king was released.
